Day 02: In Kathmandu
Breakfast in the Hotel
Your day will be divided into two parts. First half will be sightseeing tour of Swayambhunath and Kathmandu City followed by Rickshaw ride in Thamel
Second half will be a sightseeing tour of Bouddhanath with Lama Interaction and Pashupatinath Temple. Also includes interaction with Sadhu and attending evening Aarti at Pashupatinath
One of the first things to do in Kathmandu is seek blessings of the Almighty at Swayambhunath. The most ancient and enigmatic of the Valley’s holy shrines, the golden-spired stupa of Swayambhunath tops a wooded hillock.
After that visit Kathmandu Durbar Square. One of the most famous buildings here is the Kumari Bahal, a richly decorated piece with beautiful wood carvings, is home to the Royal Kumari, the Living Goddess, a manifestation of the great goddess Durga. There is the former Royal Palace nearby, considerably more extensive than today. Then there’s the courtyard Nassal Chowk, that used to host the dramatic dance performances; now it is the coronation site of the Shah kings.
Discover Kathmandu like a local as you explore the city on a rickshaw ride. Start the tour from Kathmandu Durbar Square and pass through the bustling bazaars and market squares as you head to the colourful tourist hub Thamel. Witness the beautiful sunset, silhouetted temples and Kathmandu’s lively evening at this place.
Get ready for a half day tour of Bouddhanath. This stupa, approx. 7 kms east of Kathmandu city is one of the biggest attractions in Kathmandu it is one of the most distinctive monuments and important Buddhist sites in Nepal and, with a diameter of over 100 meters, amongst the largest in the world. Bouddha is a particular focus for Kathmandu’s Tibetan community and throughout the day there is a constant stream of people circling the stupa spinning prayer wheels and reciting mantras. Surrounding the stupa are six major monasteries and a host of smaller ones as well as cafes, restaurants and shops selling Tibetan carpets and Newari silversmiths.
Visit Monastery for interaction with Lama in Bouddhanath and get the blessings.
Continue your tour to Pashupatinath. This is Nepal’s most sacred Hindu shrine and one of the prime attractions in Nepal. The supreme holiness of the site stems from the Shiva linga enshrined in its main temple and its location. The temple’s origins are obscure, an inscription dates from 477, but a shrine may have stood here for 1000 years before that.
Sadhus in Hinduism are wandering holy men or monks revered for being good. Talking to a Sadhu is said to either be wildly confusing or deeply insightful. Either way being able to speak Hindi is a huge advantage in deciphering what they are saying. However, a few Sadhus do understand more English than you might at first have guessed.
Later enjoy the beautiful Aarti ceremony at the bank of Bagmati.
Your last stop for the day is Pashupatinath Temple. Regarded as one of the holiest shrines of Hindus across the world; priests and devotees perform daily rituals and offer prayers at the temple. The evening ‘Aarti’ at the banks of Bagmati River on the eastern side of the temple draws people in hordes. The ritual makes the evening environment dazzling. The Aarti is performed at 6 pm every day. The attendees experience a blissful moment.

Your next visit will be to Gupteshwor Cave. A sacred cave and one of the intriguing parts of Pokhara sightseeing, lies 2 kms from Pokhara airport. The entrance is right across from Devi's fall and the cave is almost 3 km long. It has some big hall-size rooms and some passages where you have to crawl on all fours.
Then you will go ahead and reach the Old Bazaar and Bindhyabasini Temple. The old bazaar is a typical traditional bazaar, colorful with ethnically diverse traders selling different items. This area is strewn with shops with commodities ranging from edibles and clothes, cosmetics and gold.
