Where Borjomi fits in your Georgia trip

On our 10-day Full Route, Borjomi follows Kazbegi and the mountain journey. You spend one night here, then travel onward to Batumi and the Black Sea coast. A stop at Uplistsikhe may be possible en route; ask when planning your dates.

The 5-day and 7-day trips do not include Borjomi. The 7-day route instead focuses on the mountains and Kakheti.

The water that made the town

The mineral water story

Borjomi's naturally carbonated springs shaped the town's identity. Spa development expanded in the 19th century, and bottling began in the 1890s. Today the name is known far beyond Georgia.

At the central spring, the best introduction is simple: taste the water and take time to walk among the trees.

A royal chapter

Likani Palace and the Romanov connection

Built in the 1890s for Grand Duke Nicholas Mikhailovich, Likani Palace later became a retreat for Soviet leaders. Its story adds another layer to Borjomi's spa-town history.

The property has served an official residence role, so do not assume casual walk-in access. Confirm current access arrangements before making it part of your day.

Beyond the town

Borjomi–Kharagauli National Park

Georgia's first national park begins on Borjomi's doorstep. Its marked trails range from short forest walks to demanding multi-day hikes.

For a one-night stop, choose a short walk. A long trail needs its own time, preparation and any permits required by the park administration.

Good to know

About the “Kukushka” train

Older travel guides may describe the historic Borjomi–Bakuriani railway as an operating attraction.

A lovely piece of history

The narrow-gauge train once connected Borjomi with Bakuriani and remains part of the area's travel story.

Check before planning around it

The train is not listed in the current published passenger timetable. Bakuriani can be reached by road; include a train ride only if the railway confirms that service has resumed for your travel dates.

Find your pace

Is one night in Borjomi enough?

Enough for the town's core experience, provided you keep the day relaxed.

Fits a one-night stop

Central Park, spring water and one optional activity

  • Walk the park at an easy pace
  • Try the mineral spring
  • Choose a cable-car ride or another activity if available
Needs more time

A longer hike or a separate side trip

  • Sulfur baths plus several attractions
  • National park's long trails
  • Bakuriani, Vardzia or Rabati Fortress
The nearby side trips are destination ideas, not standard add-ons from this Borjomi stop. Ask the team if a different route or extra time is possible.

Practical notes for your stop

02 / Wellness

Ask for spa time

A dedicated spa and wellness afternoon is a luxury-tier add-on tied to the 10-day route, not a standard inclusion.

03 / What to pack

Bring light layers

Borjomi is generally milder than the mountain stops, but evenings can feel cool outside summer.

Borjomi FAQs

Is Borjomi worth visiting?

Yes, if you want a calm spa-town pause between the mountains and coast. On our 10-day route, it is a one-night stop rather than a standalone holiday.

How far is Borjomi from Tbilisi?

Allow roughly 160 km and about 2.5–3 hours by road, depending on the route and traffic.

Is Borjomi included in every itinerary?

No. It is part of the 10-day Full Route only; the 5-day and 7-day trips do not include it.

Is the Borjomi–Bakuriani train running?

The train is not listed in the current published passenger timetable. Check directly with Georgian Railway before planning a ride. Bakuriani can also be reached by road.

Can I visit Likani Palace?

Do not count on casual walk-in access. Confirm the current arrangement before your trip.

Is one night enough?

One night suits Central Park, the mineral spring and perhaps one optional activity. Longer hikes and side trips need more time.

Is Borjomi suitable for families?

Yes. Central Park offers an easy-paced break after mountain travel. Ask the team how it fits your family itinerary.
