How Many Days in Georgia Do You Need for Your Trip?

How Many Days Are Enough For Georgia? 5, 7 Or 10 Days Compared

The number of days you book for Georgia is not the number of days you get.

Your e-Visa sets a ceiling, and Wego reports it as 30 days within a 120-day window for Indian passports.

Your insurance must cover the full stay, entry and exit dates included, at no less than GEL 30,000.

Georgia’s tourism board says Kazbegi needs two to three days “at the very minimum”, so a one-night stop is already short.

Batumi is 350 km and 5 hours 30 minutes from Tbilisi by car, each way.

On 10 February 2026, the Gudauri–Kobi road was closed to all vehicles “until further notice”, and Kazbegi sits beyond it.

This roadmap turns those limits into a day count you can defend, current as of 1 October 2026.

The Short Answer: How Many Days Are Enough For Georgia?

Seven days is enough for Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Gudauri and Kakheti.

Ten days is enough if you add Batumi and Borjomi.

Five days works only for Tbilisi plus one region.

  • 5 days: Tbilisi plus Kazbegi, or Tbilisi plus Kakheti, but not both.
  • 7 days: Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Gudauri and Kakheti.
  • 10 days: the 7-day core plus Batumi and Borjomi.
  • 12 days or more: the 10-day route with longer mountain time, which the tourism board says needs four to five days if you hike.

Add one spare day to any plan that includes Kazbegi in winter.

These answers come from road hours and entry rules, not from counting attractions.

Three Limits That Set Your Number

Your E-Visa Stay Window

The official e-Visa portal says a decision takes not less than 5 working days.

It also says the permitted stay varies by the country of your passport.

Its FAQ page prints no figure for Indian passports.

Wego’s guide of 29 April 2026 reports up to 30 days within a 120-day window from approval.

Read the days printed on your approved e-Visa before you fix your return date.

If Wego’s figure holds, a 7-day or 10-day trip sits well inside the stay limit.

The real limit is the 5-working-day wait, so apply before you buy non-refundable flights.

Insurance Must Cover Every Day, Entry To Exit

Visit Georgia’s January 2026 explainer says cover must be no less than GEL 30,000.

It must be valid for the full stay, including entry and exit dates.

The policy must also show these details:

  • the parties to the contract
  • the covered territory and insured risks
  • the start and end dates of cover
  • the coverage limits
  • the premium amount and payment terms

Check the dates line first, because a wrong date is the error a longer trip multiplies.

If you land after midnight, start the policy on the landing date.

Every day you add to the trip is a day you add to the policy.

Fix your day count first and buy insurance second.

Your Arrival And Departure Hours

IndiGo’s 2023 launch schedule had Delhi–Tbilisi landing at 00:45.

The return flight left Tbilisi at 01:45.

A 00:45 landing means your first hotel night is mostly gone.

A 01:45 departure means you leave the hotel the evening before.

Our planning rule is to count each of those days as half a day.

IndiGo cancelled its Tbilisi flights from late January 2026, citing Iranian airspace.

We could not confirm a current schedule, so check IndiGo’s booking page for your dates.

If you connect through another hub, your landing time changes.

Fix your flight times before you fix your day count.

Your E-Visa Stay Window

The official e-Visa portal says a decision takes not less than 5 working days. Wego's 29 April 2026 guide reports up to 30 days within a 120-day window from approval.

  • Read the days printed on your approved e-Visa.
  • A 7-day or 10-day trip should sit well inside the reported limit.
  • Apply before buying non-refundable flights.

Insurance Must Cover Every Day

Visit Georgia's January 2026 explainer says cover must be no less than GEL 30,000 and valid for the full stay, including entry and exit dates.

  • Check the start and end dates first.
  • If you land after midnight, start cover on the landing date.
  • Fix your day count first and buy insurance second.

Your Arrival And Departure Hours

IndiGo's earlier Delhi-Tbilisi schedule landed at 00:45 and returned at 01:45, which changes how useful your first and last days feel.

  • Count late-night arrival and departure days as half days.
  • IndiGo cancelled Tbilisi flights from late January 2026.
  • Check current flight times before fixing your day count.

Planning rule: fix your flight times, e-Visa window and insurance dates before you decide whether the trip should be 7 days, 10 days or longer.

The Driving Hours Ledger What Each Stop Costs In Days

The Driving-Hours Ledger: What Each Stop Costs In Days

Georgia’s tourism board publishes road times from Tbilisi.

Those times let you price each region in hours instead of guessing.

Official Drive Times From Tbilisi
Region One way Round trip from Tbilisi
Telavi, Kakheti 1 hour 55 minutes 3 hours 50 minutes
Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) about 3 hours about 6 hours
Batumi 5 hours 30 minutes 11 hours

Georgia Travel lists Kazbegi at 2 hours 55 minutes on its town page and about 3 hours on its activities page.

We could not confirm an official time for Borjomi, because the tourism board’s page returned an error.

Treat every figure as a best case.

Kakheti and Kazbegi as round trips from Tbilisi add up to 9 hours 50 minutes of driving.

Add Batumi by road, both ways, and the total reaches 20 hours 50 minutes.

That is before Borjomi and airport transfers.

Roaming Legs’ own 10-day route covers close to 900 km.

Gudauri sits on the road to Kazbegi, so it adds little extra driving.

Why Kazbegi Needs More Than One Night

Georgia Travel’s Kazbegi page says two to three days, “at the very minimum”, suits a leisurely visit.

It recommends four to five days for hiking.

It says the road from Tbilisi takes about 3 hours.

With one night, you spend about 3 hours arriving and about 3 hours leaving.

Gergeti Trinity Church then has to fit into the hours between.

If mountain time is the point of your trip, give Kazbegi two nights.

If you give it one, treat it as a stop, not a stay.

Why Batumi Eats Two Travel Days

Georgia Travel’s Batumi page puts the road at 350 km and 5 hours 30 minutes from Tbilisi.

By road both ways, that is 11 hours on the move.

The tourism board gives no recommended number of days for Batumi.

A 7-day trip that adds Batumi by road spends 11 of its driving hours on one city.

The Batumi–Akhaltsikhe road is a mountain route.

On 27 February 2026, the Roads Department suspended all traffic on its Goderdzi Resort–Utkisubani section, 1TV reported.

If your route passes through Borjomi on the way to the coast, ask which road your driver will use.

Where One Night Is Not Enough

Why Kazbegi Needs More Than One Night

Georgia Travel's Kazbegi page says two to three days, at the very minimum, suits a leisurely visit. It recommends four to five days for hiking.

  • The road from Tbilisi takes about 3 hours.
  • With one night, you spend about 3 hours arriving and 3 hours leaving.
  • Gergeti Trinity Church has to fit into the hours between.
  • If mountain time is the point, give Kazbegi two nights.

Why Batumi Eats Two Travel Days

Georgia Travel's Batumi page puts the road at 350 km and 5 hours 30 minutes from Tbilisi. By road both ways, that is 11 hours on the move.

  • A 7-day trip with Batumi spends heavy driving time on one city.
  • The Batumi-Akhaltsikhe road is a mountain route.
  • Road suspensions can affect sections around Goderdzi.
  • If routing via Borjomi, ask which road your driver will use.

Planning rule: give Kazbegi two nights if the mountains matter. Give Batumi enough room, because the coast takes two serious travel days by road.

Which Trip Length Fits Which Route

5 Days

Count 4 usable days once you apply the half-day rule at each end.

Kazbegi costs about 6 hours of driving.

Kakheti costs 3 hours 50 minutes.

Together they take 9 hours 50 minutes out of 4 usable days.

Choose one region and spend the rest in Tbilisi.

Roaming Legs’ Georgia 5-day itinerary shows a worked version.

7 Days

You have 6 usable days.

Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Gudauri and Kakheti fit, with 9 hours 50 minutes of driving.

There is no spare day in that plan.

That is acceptable in summer, and risky in winter.

Roaming Legs’ Georgia 7-day itinerary covers this route.

10 Days Or More

You have about 9 usable days.

That is enough for the 7-day core, plus Batumi and Borjomi.

The cost is road time, about 900 km across the whole route.

Add a day if you want Kazbegi hikes or a rest day on the coast.

The 10-day Georgia itinerary shows how those days are laid out.

When The Mountains Cut Your Days

When The Mountains Cut Your Days

On 10 February 2026, Georgia Today reported that all vehicles were barred from the Gudauri–Kobi section, km 93 to km 107.

The reason was high avalanche danger, and the ban ran “until further notice”.

The Mleta–Gudauri stretch was open only to non-stop transit, meaning vehicles could not stop.

On 27 February 2026, the Roads Department again suspended all traffic on Gudauri–Kobi, this time for blizzard conditions, 1TV reported.

We found no published reopening dates in those reports.

Kazbegi lies beyond Kobi, so a closure cuts it off.

Ask your planner for the closure plan in writing before you pay.

Ask whether a lost day is swapped, shifted or refunded.

Our best time to visit Georgia page shows what each season allows.

Planning Checklist

Your Planning Order, Step By Step

  6. Check the stay days on your e-Visa and allow the 5-working-day decision time.

Mistakes That Cost Money

  • Choosing days by an attractions list instead of road hours.
  • Giving Kazbegi one night and expecting mountain time.
  • Adding Batumi to a 7-day trip.
  • Counting a 00:45 landing and a 01:45 departure as full days.
  • Starting insurance on the wrong date.
  • Buying non-refundable flights before the e-Visa decision.
  • Leaving no spare day in a winter plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Stay In Georgia Longer Than 30 Days On An E-Visa?

Read the days printed on your approved e-Visa, and ask the Embassy of Georgia about extensions.

Does My Insurance Need To Cover The Day I Land After Midnight?

Yes.

Visit Georgia says cover must include entry and exit dates.

Start the policy on your landing date, not the date you left India.

Is 5 Days Enough If I Want Tbilisi, Kazbegi And Kakheti?

No.

Kazbegi and Kakheti together take 9 hours 50 minutes of round-trip driving from Tbilisi.

Your 4 usable days cannot hold both comfortably, so pick one region.

Is 7 Days Enough For Kazbegi, Gudauri And Kakheti?

Georgia Travel suggests two to three days at the very minimum for Kazbegi alone.

Give it two nights and cut another stop if you want mountain time.

Is 10 Days Too Long Or Too Short For A First Trip?

It is enough for the 7-day core plus Batumi and Borjomi.

It is long on the road, at close to 900 km on Roaming Legs' route.

Choose it only if you want the coast.

How Many Days Do I Lose To Flights From India?

About one day in total, if you land after midnight and fly out in the early hours.

IndiGo's 2023 schedule had a 00:45 landing and a 01:45 departure.

We could not confirm a current nonstop, so check your own flight times.

Should I Add A Spare Day For Road Closures?

Yes, for any winter plan that includes Kazbegi.

The Gudauri–Kobi road was closed on 10 and 27 February 2026.

Ask in writing what happens to a lost day.

Can I Do Batumi On A 7-Day Trip?

Not comfortably by road.

Batumi is 5 hours 30 minutes from Tbilisi each way, which is 11 hours round trip.

If you have 7 days, drop Batumi or drop Kakheti.

Which Documents Can A Border Officer Ask For On Any Trip Length?

The e-Visa portal lists five.

They are your passport, proof of the purpose of travel, proof of accommodation, travel and health insurance, and proof of sufficient funds.

Match your hotel dates and route to your day count, so your answers agree with your documents.

How Long Before Travel Should I Apply For The E-Visa?

The portal says a decision takes not less than 5 working days.

Apply well before your leave starts.

Do not buy non-refundable flights until the decision arrives.

How Many Days Should I Allow For A Winter Trip?

Add one spare day to any plan that includes Kazbegi.

Closures on 10 and 27 February 2026 cut the Gudauri–Kobi road.

Also ask which road your driver will use for Batumi.

Can I Shorten My Trip If A Pass Closes?

Only if your booking terms allow it.

We found no published reopening dates for the February 2026 closures.

Ask for the closure plan, and whether a lost day is swapped or refunded, before you pay.

Pick Your Days After You Pick Your Limits

Choose your landing time, your stay window and your regions first.

The day count then falls out of the arithmetic.
