7-Day Georgia Honeymoon Itinerary from India

7-Day Georgia Honeymoon Itinerary for Couples

A newly married Indian woman who changed her name after the wedding and applied for a Georgia e-Visa under her new name — but travels on the old passport — loses the fee for good.

The official portal says the fee is not refunded for any information mismatch between the visa and the travel document.

Then the insurance doubling begins: Georgia requires GEL 30,000 of health cover per person from 1 January 2026, which means two separate policies, not one shared certificate.

And if your Kazbegi day falls in winter without a confirmed road-closure plan, the stretch between Gudauri and Kazbegi can be shut to all vehicles — the Roads Department closed it on 10 February 2026 for avalanche risk, with no advance warning.

This roadmap fixes all three before you book a single flight, and lays out the full 7-day route day by day, current as of 7 October 2026.

7-Day Georgia Honeymoon

Seven Days Is the Right Length

Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Gudauri and Kakheti give you Georgia's mountain-and-wine highlights at a relaxed pace, without spending your honeymoon on the road.

Before You Book: Two Applications, Two Policies

The Name-Mismatch Trap For Newly Married Women

The e-Visa portal says the fee is non-refundable if information on the visa does not match the travel document you fly on.

Apply under the name printed in the passport you will physically carry.

If your surname changed after marriage but your passport still shows your pre-marriage name, apply under the pre-marriage name — and use that same name on every hotel, insurance and flight booking.

If your passport is already updated to the new name, use the new name everywhere.

Do not mix names across documents: the border officer checks that your passport, visa, insurance certificate and hotel voucher all agree.

List your companion’s details on your application so both are examined jointly, even though you file separately.

Two Insurance Policies, Not One

Visit Georgia’s official explainer on the 2026 insurance rule requires every tourist to carry health and accident cover of at least GEL 30,000 per person from arrival to departure.

One certificate naming one person does not satisfy the requirement for the other.

The policy must show: the contract parties, the covered territory, the subject, the start and end dates, the insured risks, the limits and the premium terms — seven items.

GeoCover’s Visitor plan lists GEL 3.95 per day; 7 days costs GEL 27.65 (~₹1,017 per person, ~₹2,034 for two at October 2026 rates).

If paragliding is on your plan, GeoCover also lists an Extreme plan at GEL 17.5 per day — we could not confirm from the pages we opened which activities the standard plan excludes, so get the answer in writing before you book.

Day-By-Day Itinerary For Your Georgia Honeymoon

Day-By-Day Itinerary For Your Georgia Honeymoon

Day 1: Arrive In Tbilisi — Settle And Explore The Old Town

A private transfer from Tbilisi International Airport takes you directly to your hotel.

If you land after midnight, your insurance start date must match the landing date — not the day you left India.

The Old Town (Kala) is walkable from most central hotels: carved wooden balconies over the Mtkvari River, the domed sulfur-bath district of Abanotubani, and the cliff-top silhouette of Narikala Fortress above.

Tbilisi’s name comes from the Georgian word for “warm place” — the city was built around natural hot sulfur springs in Abanotubani.

Book a private sulfur-bath cabin for two on your first evening — private cabins are available at several bathhouses and offer a genuinely couple-specific experience, distinct from the shared public sections.

Confirm with your operator which cabin tier is included and which requires a separate booking.

Day 2: Tbilisi — Narikala And The Old Town At Your Own Pace

Morning: take the cable car up to Narikala Fortress for views over the city, then walk back down through the rose garden.

The Bridge of Peace connects Old Town to the Rike Park riverbank — a short, easy walk and the best angle for the city skyline at dusk.

Mtskheta, Georgia’s ancient capital, is 20 km from Tbilisi — a 30-minute private vehicle ride — and worth a half-day if you want the Jvari Monastery and its river-confluence view before the mountain leg starts.

Your evening is free — use it for a long dinner rather than another stop.

Day 3: Tbilisi To Kazbegi — Via Ananuri Fortress And The Military Highway

The Georgian Military Highway north from Tbilisi to Kazbegi is approximately 150 km and takes around 3 hours by private vehicle.

The route passes Zhinvali Reservoir and Ananuri Fortress — a 17th-century riverside castle with two churches inside its walls, no entrance fee, accessible in under 30 minutes.

Kazbegi town (officially Stepantsminda) sits at 1,740 metres above sea level.

If either of you feels altitude-related discomfort (headache, fatigue), go slowly on arrival — drink water, avoid alcohol and rest before the next morning’s hike or 4×4 to the church.

Day 4: Kazbegi — Gergeti Trinity Church And Mount Kazbek

Gergeti Trinity Church sits at 2,170 metres on a hill above town, with Mount Kazbek (5,047m) directly behind it on a clear morning.

The road to the church requires a 4×4 or a 1.5–2 hour hike each way from town — standard vehicles cannot drive it.

Confirm with your operator which option is included and whether the 4×4 requires a separate booking.

Go early — cloud cover at this altitude is frequent after midday.

Winter note: Georgia’s Roads Department closed the Gudauri–Kobi section (km 93–107) to all vehicles on 10 February 2026 for avalanche danger, Georgia Today reported.

Kazbegi is beyond that stretch — a closure cuts it off entirely.

If your honeymoon falls between November and March, get the road-closure contingency in writing before you pay, including who covers an extra night if the road shuts on your travel day.

Day 5 • Kazbegi to Gudauri

Panoramic Views & Mountain Air

Gudauri is 30–40 minutes from Kazbegi, with sweeping Caucasus views and summer paragliding. Book ahead if flying, check cancellation terms and insurance, then overnight in Gudauri.

Day 6: Gudauri To Kakheti — Wine Region And Sighnaghi

The drive from Gudauri to Kakheti runs through Tbilisi and takes approximately 3 hours total.

Kakheti is Georgia’s primary wine region; its winemaking tradition — wine aged in buried clay qvevri vessels — is listed by UNESCO on its Intangible Cultural Heritage register.

Your overnight is typically in or near Telavi, Kakheti’s regional capital.

Sighnaghi, about an hour from Telavi, is known as the “City of Love” — an intact 18th-century hilltop fortress town with a 24-hour civil registration office that became a popular spot for couples to marry on the spot, set above sweeping Alazani Valley views.

A winery visit in the evening covers the traditional qvevri method — wine fermented and aged in buried clay pots.

If you travel in September or October, the Rtveli grape harvest brings a very different energy to Kakheti: workers in the vineyards, fresh-pressed grape juice at the cellar door.

Day 7: Kakheti To Tbilisi — Depart

Morning at leisure in Kakheti — a final walk in Sighnaghi or a slow breakfast.

Drive to Tbilisi (~1.5–2 hours) for your departure; a private airport transfer is included.

Tbilisi International Airport is the only major commercial airport on this route — confirm your departure terminal before you leave Kakheti.

The Best Time For A Georgia Honeymoon

The Best Time For A Georgia Honeymoon

April–May: The most balanced window — mild temperatures across all stops, mountain roads open, wildflowers on the Military Highway.

Tbilisi in July–August can reach 35°C, which makes the mountain leg uncomfortable without good hotel air conditioning.

September–October: The Rtveli harvest in Kakheti makes September–October the most atmospheric time for wine-region days.

October brings colder nights at Kazbegi and Gudauri, so pack a layer.

November–March: Gudauri’s ski lifts run and the mountain scenery changes completely.

The trade-off is the Gudauri–Kobi road closure risk — it can shut without notice, cutting off Kazbegi entirely.

Confirm a written contingency before booking a winter itinerary that includes Kazbegi.

Georgia Trip Planning

Your Planning Order

Complete passport, photo, dates, hotels and insurance first, then apply for both e-Visas. Confirm your room and road plans, and carry printed documents. Buy non-refundable flights only after steps 1–6.

Mistakes That Cost Couples Money

  • Applying for the e-Visa under a name that does not match the travel passport.
  • Buying one insurance policy for two people.
  • Missing the 1-hour email or 5-hour payment window — cancels the application without a refund.
  • Paying with a RuPay-only card (the portal accepts Visa or Mastercard only).
  • Booking a winter Kazbegi stop without a written road-closure contingency.
  • Assuming the standard insurance plan covers paragliding.
  • Not asking for a double bed in writing.
  • Starting insurance on the India departure date when you land in Georgia after midnight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 7 Days Enough For A Georgia Honeymoon?

Yes, for the core mountain-and-wine route.

Seven days covers Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Gudauri and Kakheti without rushing between them.

It misses Batumi and Borjomi — those require 10 days.

Do We Each Need A Separate Georgia E-Visa?

Yes — each traveller files their own application with their own passport details and photo.

One card can pay for both (Visa or Mastercard only; RuPay will not work).

List each other as companions so applications are examined jointly.

What If My Passport Name Changed After Marriage?

Apply under the name printed in the passport you will physically travel on.

Use that same name on every booking — hotels, insurance and flights.

The portal says a mismatch between the visa and the travel document loses the fee with no refund.

Do We Need Two Insurance Policies Or One?

Two — the 2026 rule requires GEL 30,000 per person, so a single shared certificate does not satisfy both.

Each policy must cover from arrival day to departure day.

Does Standard Travel Insurance Cover Paragliding In Gudauri?

We could not confirm this from the pages we opened.

GeoCover lists a separate Extreme plan at GEL 17.5 per day for higher-risk activities.

Get exclusions from your insurer in writing before you book the paragliding session.

Can We Book A Double Bed, Or Will It Be Twin Beds?

Twin-sharing means two people share a room — it does not guarantee a double bed.

Ask for a double or king bed in writing at every overnight stop, before you pay.

Will A Winter Honeymoon Affect Our Kazbegi Day?

It can — the Roads Department closed the Gudauri–Kobi stretch (km 93–107) to all vehicles on 10 February 2026 for avalanche danger, cutting off Kazbegi completely.

Ask for the closure contingency — including who pays for an extra night — in writing before booking.

What Is The Best Month For A Georgia Honeymoon From India?

April–May for mild weather, open mountain roads and spring scenery.

September–October for the Rtveli grape harvest in Kakheti and stable mountain conditions.

Both windows avoid Tbilisi's summer heat and the winter road-closure risk on the Kazbegi leg.

How Much Does A Georgia Honeymoon Cost For Two?

Our 7-day Georgia package starts from ₹1,38,000 per person — a couple pays twice the per-person figure plus two e-Visas (~₹3,910), two insurance policies (~₹2,034 at current GeoCover rates for 7 days), 2% TCS on the package, and flights.

Is Georgia Safe For Couples Travelling Alone?

Canada's travel advice for Georgia recommends a high degree of caution in Tbilisi due to regular demonstrations — avoid large gatherings.

Do not enter Abkhazia, South Ossetia or the 5 km buffer zone around their boundaries — the boundary lines are poorly marked and you can be detained even by mistake.

Final Planning Check

Plan Early, Travel Smoothly

Check the passport name, separate insurance for each traveller, and a winter Kazbegi road backup before booking. Get these three right, and your Georgia trip stays on track.
