Georgia’s Revenue Service names alprazolam, tramadol and codeine on its prohibited-medicines list.
Carrying a controlled medicine is allowed only as a 31-day supply, backed by three documents translated into English and approved by an authorised agency.
Use a power bank on your flight, and you break DGCA’s January 2026 advisory.
Kazbegi’s average January night is −10.9°C, and Tbilisi’s weather will not warn you about it.
Your duty-free limit on wine, spirits and beer coming home is 2 litres.
This roadmap shows what to pack, what to keep in your cabin bag and what to leave behind, current as of 1 October 2026.
What Customs And Airlines Can Take Away
Indian Medicines In Georgia: The 10-Pack Rule And The 31-Day Rule
The Georgia Revenue Service publishes a brochure on prohibited and permitted medicines.
The brochure carries no date, so confirm it before you fly.
Up to 10 standard packs need no documents.
More than 10 packs needs medical documentation and a daily-dose calculation based on your visit length.
Controlled medicines follow a stricter route.
The brochure names codeine, tramadol, methadone, fentanyl and alprazolam, among others.
It allows a 31-day reserve of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances only with documents.
You need all three:
- a copy of the prescription from the prescribing country
- a copy of the physician’s certificate from the prescribing country
- a document signed and sealed by an authorised person confirming validity, issued by the prescribing country
Each must be translated into English and approved by the authorised agency.
The brochure also says you may not pass these drugs to another person.
Illegal import of controlled substances is a criminal offence under Georgian law.
Read the brochure’s list against your own prescription before you pack a single strip.
If your drug is not listed and you are unsure, ask the Embassy of Georgia in New Delhi on +91 11 4949 6000.
How To Carry Medicines: Original Containers, English Prescription, Cabin Bag
Canada’s Georgia travel advice says to declare all medicines at customs.
It says to keep them in original containers in your carry-on bag.
It says to carry a copy of each prescription with an English translation.
It also says to bring a sufficient supply, since some common medications may be restricted.
A pill organiser is not an original container, so keep the labelled strips in the cabin bag as well.
Power Banks On Indian Flights
- Do not use power banks in flight, including through seat power.
- Carry power banks and spare lithium batteries in the bag kept with you at your seat.
- Check your airline’s watt-hour limit and charge your phone fully before boarding.
Clothing By Temperature, Not By Season
A July afternoon in Tbilisi (about 32°C) and an August night in Kazbegi (about 12°C) sit 20°C apart.
Pack for the coldest place on your route, not the average.
For month-by-month detail, see our guide to the best time to visit Georgia.
Tbilisi And Kakheti: Heat And Evening Drops
Tbilisi’s average July maximum is about 32°C, according to climatestotravel’s figures.
Some summers run into the high 30s.
In January its average maximum is about 7°C.
Cotton layers handle summer days.
Add one warm layer for any month outside June to August.
Kazbegi And Gudauri: The Cold You Are Not Packing For
Stepantsminda, the town most travellers call Kazbegi, sits at about 1,730 metres.
amindia.ge’s 2015–2024 averages show January at −1.6°C by day and −10.9°C at night.
August is its warmest month, at 20.5°C by day and 12°C at night.
So even an August night needs a fleece or light down jacket.
For January, you need thermal base layers, an insulated jacket, gloves, a hat and waterproof boots.
Gudauri is higher than Tbilisi and colder, and the road between them can close in winter.
Our Kazbegi travel guide covers what the stop involves.
When Rain Protection Matters
- Pack rain gear for Kazbegi in May and Tbilisi around May to June.
- Batumi is wettest from September to November, so a compact umbrella may not be enough.
- Carry a waterproof jacket with a hood for heavy rain, flooding, or landslide-prone routes.
Church And Monastery Dress Rules
Georgia Spirit’s etiquette guide says women must cover their heads, cover their shoulders and wear a skirt or trousers below the knee.
It says men should wear trousers rather than shorts, remove hats indoors and cover their shoulders.
It adds that most active churches keep scarves at the entrance to borrow.
We could not confirm the rules for each individual church.
Pack one large scarf and one pair of long trousers per person.
Do not plan church days in shorts.
Chargers, Adapters And Power
WorldStandards lists Georgia as using Type C and Type F sockets at 230 V and 50 Hz.
That is the same voltage band as India.
The risk is the plug, not the voltage.
We could not confirm from an official source whether every Indian plug fits.
Check the pins on each charger before you leave.
Carry one universal adapter.
Health, Hiking And Money Items From Official Advice
Canada’s advice recommends hepatitis A vaccination, and it says traveller’s diarrhoea is common.
It says to avoid tap water and use bottled or boiled water instead.
It recommends tick and insect protection.
Pack repellent and light long sleeves.
Wear closed-toe shoes for outdoor activities.
Trekking carries real risk, and the advice says never trek alone.
It also says to buy insurance that covers helicopter rescue and medical evacuation.
Credit cards may not work in rural areas.
Carry small denominations of cash for those stops.

Trails may lack clear markings and weather can shift rapidly, so carry a waterproof layer and a warm layer even on a short walk.
Pickpocketing occurs in crowded urban areas, according to the same advice.
Pack a zipped cross-body bag and leave expensive jewellery at home.
Papers That Stay In Your Cabin Bag
The Georgian border officer can ask for five documents.
They are your passport, proof of the purpose of travel, proof of accommodation, travel and health insurance, and proof of funds.
Funds can be shown with a 3-month bank statement, an employer reference, a property document or a signed sponsor letter, according to the official e-Visa FAQ.
Keep a printed copy of your e-Visa with them.
Pack all of it in the cabin bag, never in a checked bag.
The full process, including the insurance rule and photo rules, is in our guide to the Georgia visa for Indians.
Leave Space For The Wine
CBIC’s passenger guide gives Indian residents a duty-free allowance of ₹50,000.
It includes up to 2 litres of alcoholic liquor, wine or beer.
The allowance cannot be pooled with another passenger’s.
That means 2 litres per person, not 2 litres per family.
The guide carries no date, so check CBIC before you fly.
