Best Honeymoon Places in Georgia for Couples

"Best Honeymoon Places In Georgia: Drive Times And Trade-Offs "

Georgia’s best honeymoon place depends on how many hours you will spend in a car.

Mestia in Svaneti is 7 hours 10 minutes from Tbilisi by road, according to Georgia’s tourism board.

On 10 February 2026, the Roads Department banned all vehicles on the Gudauri–Kobi stretch, and Kazbegi sits beyond it.

Batumi’s sea is swimmable only from July to mid-September.

Your e-Visa, hotels and insurance must all carry the name printed in your passport, and the portal does not refund a mistake.

This roadmap shows which places fit which trip length, current as of 1 October 2026.

Which Georgia Honeymoon Places Fit Which Trip Length?

Six places carry most Georgia honeymoons: Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Gudauri, Kakheti, Batumi and Borjomi.

Roaming Legs’ 5-day route covers Tbilisi and Kazbegi.

The 7-day route adds Gudauri and Kakheti.

The 10-day route adds Batumi and Borjomi and covers close to 900 km.

Every stop adds a hotel change, so a longer list does not make a better honeymoon.

Place From Tbilisi Best For Trade-Off
Kazbegi About 3 hours Mountain views and quiet A winter road closure can cut it off
Gudauri About 2–2.5 hours A one-night mountain stop Activities are paid and arranged on the spot
Kakheti About 2 hours Wine and slow days Our routes overnight in Telavi, not Sighnaghi
Tbilisi Start and end point Old Town and sulfur baths Every route passes through it
Batumi About 5.5–6 hours by road Sea and promenade Swimming only July to mid-September
Borjomi 2 hours or more Mineral springs and spa On the 10-day route only

Kazbegi And Gudauri: The Mountain Leg

Both places sit on the Georgian Military Highway, so one closed road affects both.

Kazbegi (Stepantsminda)

Kazbegi is about 3 hours from Tbilisi, according to Georgia’s tourism board.

Gergeti Trinity Church stands at 2,200 metres, with Mount Kazbek behind it.

The tourism board advises at least two to three days here for a relaxed visit.

Roaming Legs’ routes usually give Kazbegi one or two nights.

If quiet matters more than ticking off stops, ask for the longer stay on a private booking.

The tourism board puts peak scenery between August and October.

Our Kazbegi travel guide covers the town in full.

Gudauri

Gudauri is about 120 km from Tbilisi, roughly 2 to 2.5 hours by road.

On our routes it is a one-night stop between Tbilisi or Kakheti and Kazbegi.

Paragliding, lift tickets and ski rental are not in the package.

You arrange and pay for them on the spot.

Canada’s Georgia travel advice says adventure tourism can be dangerous when poorly organised.

It suggests hiring experienced guides and carrying helicopter rescue insurance.

Read the Gudauri guide before you decide whether one night is enough.

When The Road Closes

On 10 February 2026, the Roads Department banned all vehicles on km 93–107 of the Gudauri–Kobi section because of avalanche risk.

The Mleta–Gudauri stretch stayed open for non-stop transit only.

Kazbegi lies beyond that stretch.

For any winter dates that include Kazbegi, ask for the closure plan in writing before you pay.

Our best time to visit Georgia page covers what each season allows.

Kakheti And Sighnaghi: The Wine Leg

Kakheti is about 2 hours from Tbilisi.

Roaming Legs’ 7-day and 10-day routes give it one night, based in Telavi.

Sighnaghi

Sighnaghi is 1 hour 40 minutes from Tbilisi, according to the tourism board.

Its walls run 4 km, with six gates and 23 towers.

Its House of Rituals registers marriages around the clock, which earns the town its City of Love name.

Sighnaghi is a visit on our standard stop, not the overnight base.

A night in Sighnaghi itself is a customisation, so ask for it when you enquire on a private booking.

CHOOSE YOUR ROUTE

Which Combination To Choose

5 days: Tbilisi and Kazbegi, for mountains and quiet.
7 days: add Gudauri and Kakheti, for wine and a slower middle.
10 days: add Borjomi and Batumi, for spa and sea, with the longest drives.
Custom: Sighnaghi overnight or Batumi on a shorter trip.
Svaneti: treat it as a separate trip.
Private bookings can change route, pace and hotels. Scheduled group departures follow a fixed route.

Paperwork Checks For Newlyweds

The official e-Visa FAQ lists five documents a border officer can ask for.

They are your passport, a document proving the purpose of travel, proof of accommodation, travel and health insurance, and proof of sufficient funds.

A marriage certificate is not on that list.

Each traveller needs a separate e-Visa, whatever their age.

The fee is not refundable if the application has errors, and you must apply again.

Enter your name exactly as printed in your passport.

The portal does not address a changed surname.

We could not confirm how officers treat a surname that differs between passport and other documents.

Kakheti And Sighnaghi The Wine Leg

Kakheti In Harvest Season

The tourism board puts the harvest between mid-September and November.

It also says local guesthouses keep their own wine cellars, called marani.

Dates shift each year, so confirm the harvest week before you fix your travel dates.

Our Kakheti guide explains what the standard stop includes.

Tbilisi: The Base You Cannot Skip

Every Roaming Legs route starts and ends in Tbilisi.

Sightseeing there is free and self-guided, with private transfers handled for you.

The tourism board says sulfur baths in the Abanotubani district offer private rooms.

It also says winter brings fewer tourists and lower prices in the capital.

Canada’s advice tells travellers to exercise a high degree of caution in Tbilisi because of demonstrations.

The advisory names no streets, so ask your hotel whether demonstrations have affected its street on your dates.

See the Tbilisi travel guide for what to do with your free time.

Batumi: The Coast Leg

Batumi is roughly 370–380 km from Tbilisi, about 5.5 to 6 hours by road.

On the 10-day route it is the longest stop, followed by a return drive of about 5 hours 40 minutes.

The beach is pebble, not sand, so pack thick-soled footwear.

The tourism board’s Batumi beach guide puts peak swimming from July to mid-September, with water at 27–28°C.

By October the water is about 21°C, and in early spring it is about 14°C.

The Ali and Nino statue moves every evening from 7 pm, approaching and separating every ten minutes.

Cable car tickets, boat trips and day trips are arranged on the spot.

The Batumi guide shows what the stop adds.

On a 5-day or 7-day private booking, Batumi can be added as a paid extension.

Borjomi The Spa Stop On The Longer Route

Borjomi: The Spa Stop On The Longer Route

Borjomi is on the 10-day route only.

The tourism board gives the drive from Tbilisi as 2 hours, while our own guide says 2.5 to 3 hours.

Plan for the longer figure.

The park has a cable car at its entrance and marked paths to sulfur pools about 2.5 km away.

The tourism board says the Borjomi sulfur baths stay open all year.

Our Borjomi guide covers what is open now.

Places Honeymoon Lists Add That Rarely Fit

Mestia in Svaneti appears on many honeymoon lists.

It is 7 hours 10 minutes from Tbilisi by road, according to the tourism board.

Our own places page gives 8 to 9 hours.

A round trip is therefore well over 14 hours of driving.

Roaming Legs’ standard routes do not include Svaneti.

Kutaisi is the realistic extra, as an optional stop on the drive to Batumi on the 10-day route.

  • Assuming standard insurance covers paragliding or skiing.
