Romantic Things to Do in Georgia for Couples

Romantic Things to Do in Georgia for Couples

Most couples arrive in Georgia expecting their tour package to include the romantic experiences — the sulfur bath for two, the sunset cable car, the private wine tasting in a Kakheti cellar.

Most of those experiences are not in the package.

They need to be booked separately, arranged on arrival, or requested in writing before you travel.

A couple who misses this finds themselves in Tbilisi with a free evening and no plan, or in Sighnaghi at dusk not knowing that the cable car closed an hour ago.

This guide lists the actual romantic things to do in Georgia — destination by destination — with what each experience involves, what it costs, and whether you need to arrange it yourself.

Current as of 1 October 2026.

What Makes Georgia Good for Couples

Georgia is a compact country with four genuinely distinct settings within one week’s travel.

A couple can spend an evening in a sulfur bathhouse in Tbilisi, watch the sunrise over Mount Kazbek from a 14th-century church the next morning, sip wine from a 2,000-year-old clay vessel in Kakheti two days later, and end the trip on the Black Sea coast in Batumi.

No one destination covers all of that — which means a couple’s experience of Georgia depends heavily on which activities they actually build in at each stop.

The stops themselves are part of every Roaming Legs itinerary.

The activities within them — most of the ones below — are not.

Romantic Things to Do in Tbilisi

Take the Cable Car to Narikala at Sunset

The cable car departs from Rike Park, on the bank of the Mtkvari River, and arrives at the hilltop Narikala Fortress in a few minutes.

The round-trip fare is GEL 2 per person — about ₹74 — making it one of the most well-regarded views in the South Caucasus for under ₹200 for two.

The car passes the Mother of Georgia statue on the way up, and the hilltop gives a full panorama of Tbilisi’s Old Town, the river, and the painted wooden balconies below.

The best time for couples is the hour before sunset, when the light on the Old Town is at its warmest.

The cable car is not part of a Roaming Legs package — it is a self-arranged, walk-up activity from Rike Park.

Operating hours and maintenance closure schedules are managed by Tbilisi Transport Company — check before your visit, as the car occasionally closes for maintenance.

Book a Private Room at the Sulfur Baths

Tbilisi takes its name from the word tpili, meaning “warm place” in Georgian — a reference to the natural sulfur springs that still feed the Abanotubani bathhouse district.

A private room in one of the Abanotubani bathhouses accommodates two people and typically costs GEL 80–100 per hour (approximately ₹2,944–₹3,680).

The experience involves soaking in a tiled private room filled with natural sulfur spring water, with steam and warmth from the underground source.

Most bathhouses in Abanotubani do not require advance reservations — you walk in and book a room on arrival — but peak times (evenings and weekends) fill up.

The Orbeliani Baths are among the most photographed in the district, recognizable by their blue-and-white tilework exterior, though several bathhouses in the same lane offer comparable private rooms.

This is not part of any Roaming Legs package — arrange it on the ground in Tbilisi.

Walk the Old Town at Night and Cross the Bridge of Peace

The Bridge of Peace is a glass-and-steel pedestrian bridge that connects Tbilisi’s Old Town to Rike Park across the Mtkvari River.

After dark, the bridge is lit from within by LED lighting — a deliberately designed nighttime landmark rather than a daytime one.

Crossing it as a couple, then walking back into the Old Town’s narrow cobbled lanes, past the carved wooden balconies and the glow from the bathhouse domes, takes about an hour at a slow pace.

There is no cost.

The bridge is the natural base of the cable car route — a couple can combine the sunset cable car ride with an evening Old Town walk and bridge crossing in a single two-to-three hour circuit.

Explore the Botanical Garden and the Waterfall Trail

Tbilisi’s Botanical Garden sits just below Narikala Fortress, accessible on foot from the Old Town.

Entry is GEL 5 per person (approximately ₹184).

The garden spans more than 128 hectares and includes a trail that leads to a natural waterfall — an unusual feature for a city botanical garden, and one that most couples visiting Tbilisi miss.

The waterfall trail takes about 30–40 minutes to walk from the garden entrance.

The garden is best visited in the morning before the heat builds in summer, or in autumn when the foliage changes.

It is not part of a Roaming Legs itinerary — buy tickets at the gate.

Romantic Things to Do in Kazbegi

Watch the Sunrise at Gergeti Trinity Church

Gergeti Trinity Church sits at approximately 2,170m, built in the 14th century on a hillside above Stepantsminda, with Mount Kazbek (5,054m) directly behind it.

The church faces east, which means it catches the first light directly — the mountain above it turns from grey to gold in the same moment the valley below fills with colour.

A 4×4 taxi from town takes approximately 20–25 minutes to reach the church.

Sunrise times in Georgia range from around 6:15am in late summer to 8:00am in midwinter — check the exact time for your travel dates.

This requires coordinating with your driver the evening before, not something arranged through the standard itinerary.

On a Roaming Legs private trip, ask your driver on arrival whether a sunrise run to the church can be built into the following morning’s schedule.

The experience at sunrise is significantly quieter than midday — the church draws large numbers of visitors by 10am in the warmer months.

Drive the Georgian Military Highway Together

The Georgian Military Highway is the road connecting Tbilisi to Kazbegi, running north through increasingly dramatic Caucasus scenery.

On a Roaming Legs itinerary, a private vehicle covers the full drive — this means a couple can stop when they want, rather than following a group van schedule.

Two stops stand out for couples specifically.

Ananuri Fortress, roughly an hour from Tbilisi, is a 17th-century castle complex on the edge of the Zhinvali Reservoir — the turquoise water against the stone towers is one of the most photographed views on the route.

The Jvari Pass viewpoint, at approximately 2,379m, is where the road peaks before descending toward Kazbegi and where clear days reveal a long sweep of the Greater Caucasus range.

Both stops are typically built into our itinerary’s Tbilisi–Kazbegi day — confirm the timing with your driver.

Romantic Things to Do in Kakheti

Do a Wine Tasting in a Kakheti Cellar

Georgia is widely considered the birthplace of wine, and Kakheti produces roughly 70% of the country’s annual harvest.

The traditional method — fermenting wine in large egg-shaped clay qvevri vessels buried underground — has been practiced here for approximately 8,000 years and was inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2013.

A wine tasting for two in a working Kakheti cellar is an experience that changes depending on whether you take the standard option or a private one.

On Roaming Legs’ 7-day and 10-day itineraries, a winery visit and wine tasting in Kakheti are included as standard — both Rkatsiteli (the signature white grape) and Saperavi (the signature red, one of the few varieties in the world with red flesh as well as red skin) are typically poured.

Private Wine Tasting

Make Your Tasting Private

Request a private cellar session instead of a shared tasting when enquiring about our luxury Georgia tours. Ask for the private arrangement in writing.

Spend an Evening in Sighnaghi, the City of Love

Sighnaghi is a restored 18th-century hilltop town in Kakheti, about an hour’s drive from Telavi.

Its nickname — “the City of Love” — is not a marketing slogan.

The town has a government-run registry office that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, making it possible for couples to register a civil marriage at any hour, including overnight.

For Indian couples who have already married at home and want a symbolic or legal registration in Georgia, the process uses the Georgian Civil Registry Agency — we could not confirm from an official source whether a foreign couple’s marriage registered here is automatically recognised under Indian law, so consult a legal adviser before treating this as a binding step.

Beyond the registry, Sighnaghi is a genuinely beautiful evening stop: intact city walls surround the Old Town, cobbled lanes run between restored stone houses, and the town’s western-facing hillside position gives long sunset views over the Alazani Valley below.

The standard Kakheti overnight on Roaming Legs itineraries is based in Telavi, with a day visit to Sighnaghi built in — if you want to spend the evening in Sighnaghi specifically, raise it with your planner when you book.

Romantic Things to Do in Batumi

Romantic Things to Do in Batumi

Watch the Ali and Nino Statue in the Evening

The Ali and Nino statue is a kinetic sculpture by Georgian artist Tamar Kvesitadze, installed in 2010 on Batumi’s seafront.

Two 8-metre figures — one representing an Azerbaijani man, one a Georgian woman — slowly approach each other, merge into a single form, then pass through and separate, completing the cycle approximately every 10 minutes.

The movement begins around 7pm and runs through the evening.

The sculpture is based on the 1937 novel Ali and Nino by Kurban Said, a Caucasian love story set during the First World War — sometimes described as a “Caucasian Romeo and Juliet.”

There is no entry fee.

The statue is on the Boulevard promenade, close to the Alphabet Tower — a couple can walk from one to the other in under five minutes.

Walk the Batumi Boulevard at Sunset

Batumi Boulevard is a roughly 7km promenade along the Black Sea coast, established in 1881 — one of the oldest seafront walkways in the South Caucasus.

At sunset, the light on the water and the hills behind the city makes the Boulevard one of the better evening walks in Georgia.

Europe Square, a short walk from the Boulevard’s midpoint, is centred on a statue of Medea holding the Golden Fleece — a reference to Georgia’s ancient association with the Argonauts myth — and has a dancing fountain that runs in the evenings.

Batumi Piazza, nearby, is an Italian-style square with a large central mosaic and a clock tower — a good stop for a slow evening coffee.

No cost for the walk.

Ride the Argo Cable Car to Anuria Mountain

The Argo cable car runs 2,586m from the city to the summit of Anuria Mountain, climbing approximately 250m above Batumi.

The top has a panoramic view over the city, the coastline, and, on clear days, toward the Turkish border.

Georgian dance and live music performances are held at the cultural complex at the summit.

We could not confirm current ticket prices from a 2026 primary source — commonly cited at GEL 15–20 per person from secondary sources, but ask at the cable car station for the current fare.

The cable car is not part of a Roaming Legs package — arrange it on the ground in Batumi.

One Experience Worth Adding Paragliding in Gudauri

One Experience Worth Adding: Paragliding in Gudauri

Gudauri is the ski resort on the Georgian Military Highway, and tandem paragliding flights from Kudebi Mountain above the resort are listed on Georgia’s official tourism site as a recognised activity.

A tandem flight involves flying with a licensed pilot — no solo experience required.

Three things couples must know before booking:

  • Weight and health restrictions apply. Most operators set a maximum passenger weight of 100–110kg and exclude people with certain heart conditions, spinal injuries, or pregnancies. Confirm your eligibility in writing before paying.
  • It is seasonal. Paragliding at Gudauri runs primarily in spring (April–May) and late summer to autumn (September–October), when weather windows are most reliable. Winter conditions and avalanche closures can affect access.
  • It is not part of any Roaming Legs package. Book it locally in Gudauri, and confirm current pricing directly with the operator — we found no verified 2026 fare from a trusted source.
Georgia Honeymoon Checklist

Your Final Activity Checklist

Confirm inclusions, timings and bookings before travel. Check cable cars and baths, confirm Gergeti and Kakheti plans, and pre-book activities such as Batumi and Gudauri experiences.

Mistakes Couples Make When Planning Georgia Activities

  • Assuming the sulfur bath, cable car, and wine tasting are included in the package — most are not.
  • Visiting the Tbilisi cable car without checking whether it is operating on that day (maintenance closures happen).
  • Arriving in Sighnaghi only during the midday tour stop rather than requesting an evening stay.
  • Not asking about a private wine tasting in Kakheti until after arriving, when it is too late to arrange.
  • Booking paragliding in Gudauri without confirming weight limits or weather windows in advance.
  • Paying for the Argo cable car in Batumi without checking whether visibility justifies the trip — ask at the hotel if it is a clear-sky day.
  • Missing the Ali and Nino statue performance by arriving after 9pm, when the crowd has thinned and the lighting changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Romantic Activities Included in a Georgia Tour Package?

No, in most cases.

A standard Roaming Legs Georgia package includes hotel stays, a private vehicle, full-board meals, visa assistance, and the winery visit and tasting in Kakheti.

The cable car, sulfur baths, Botanical Garden entry, Argo cable car, and paragliding are all self-arranged and paid for separately on the ground.

Ask your operator for a written list of inclusions before travel so you know what to budget and plan for yourself.

How Much Do the Tbilisi Sulfur Baths Cost for a Couple?

A private room in Abanotubani costs approximately GEL 80–100 per hour, which is roughly ₹2,944–₹3,680 for two people sharing the room.

Most bathhouses do not require advance booking — walk in and ask for a private room.

During peak times (Friday and Saturday evenings), rooms fill up within an hour of the bathhouse opening for the session — arrive early or go on a weekday.

Can We Register Our Marriage in Sighnaghi?

The Sighnaghi registry office is a government-run Civil Registry Agency branch, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Foreign couples can register a civil marriage there — the process uses Georgia's civil registry system.

We could not confirm from an official Indian source whether a marriage registered in Georgia is automatically recognised under Indian law without further steps.

Consult a legal adviser before treating a Sighnaghi registration as a binding marriage record in India.

Is the Tbilisi Cable Car Worth It?

Yes — for GEL 2 per person (about ₹74), the round trip from Rike Park to Narikala Fortress delivers a full panoramic view of Tbilisi's Old Town.

It is one of the most straightforward high-reward experiences in the city.

Check operating hours on the Tbilisi Transport Company site before visiting, as the cable car closes for maintenance periodically.

What Is the Best Season for Romantic Activities in Georgia?

Late spring (April–May) and early autumn (September–October) give the most reliable conditions across all four destinations.

Kazbegi and the Botanical Garden are at their best in these seasons.

Batumi's Boulevard is enjoyable year-round, but the sea is swimmable only from July to mid-September.

Paragliding in Gudauri is best in April–May and September–October.

Winter adds snow to Kazbegi and Gudauri but brings mountain road closure risk — see our best time to visit Georgia guide for the full picture.

Is Paragliding in Gudauri Safe and Open to Everyone?

Tandem paragliding at Gudauri uses licensed pilots and is an established activity on the Georgian Military Highway route.

It is not open to everyone: most operators set a maximum passenger weight of 100–110kg and restrict participation for people with heart conditions, spinal injuries, back problems, or pregnancies.

Weather conditions can cancel flights on short notice — operators usually do not offer refunds for weather cancellations, so confirm the policy in writing before paying.

Can We Do a Private Wine Tasting in Kakheti?

Yes.

A standard Roaming Legs Kakheti stop includes a shared winery visit and wine tasting.

A private cellar tasting arranged exclusively for your group is available as an upgrade on the luxury tour tier.

Request it in writing when you enquire — specify that you want a private session, not a shared one.

What Time Does the Ali and Nino Statue Move?

The movement cycle begins around 7pm and continues through the evening.

Each cycle — approach, merge, separation — takes approximately 10 minutes.

Arrive before 7pm to catch the first cycle and stay for at least two to see the full range of motion.

The statue is on Batumi's seafront Boulevard, close to the Alphabet Tower.

Is the Botanical Garden in Tbilisi Worth Visiting for a Couple?

Yes, if your Tbilisi stay includes a morning rather than just evenings.

The natural waterfall trail inside the garden is genuinely unusual for a city park and takes about 30–40 minutes to reach from the gate.

Entry is GEL 5 per person (approximately ₹184).

It is best visited in the cooler morning hours in summer or during autumn foliage.

What Is the Most Romantic Spot in Georgia for a Sunset?

The Tbilisi cable car hilltop at Narikala and the Sighnaghi town walls facing the Alazani Valley are the two most consistently recommended sunset points.

Narikala offers city panorama light; Sighnaghi offers wide valley and hill light.

Both are best in spring and autumn when haze is low.

The Ali and Nino statue in Batumi works best in the evening rather than at sunset — the movement cycle is more visible once the sky darkens.

Do We Need to Book Sulfur Baths in Advance?

For most Abanotubani bathhouses, no — walk in and ask for a private room.

Peak times (Friday evening, Saturday evening, public holidays) fill private rooms within 30–60 minutes of opening.

If your Tbilisi visit falls on a weekend, go in the afternoon rather than the evening, or ask your hotel to call ahead on arrival day.

Which Georgia Destination Is Best for a Romantic Trip?

Each destination offers a different kind of experience.

Tbilisi is best for city evenings — the cable car, Old Town walk, and sulfur bath.

Kazbegi is best for dramatic natural scenery — sunrise at the church, mountain views.

Kakheti is best for wine and slow afternoons — the tasting and Sighnaghi's evening light.

Batumi is best for coast and promenade — the Boulevard, the Ali and Nino statue, and beach time if you travel July to mid-September.

A couple's ideal Georgia trip includes all four — which is exactly what Roaming Legs' 10-day route covers.
